AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors are primarily designed for workstations and are rarely mentioned in gaming news. However, enthusiasts pay little attention to such conventions: the authors of the German portal ComputerBase conducted detailed gaming tests on the 64-core Threadripper 9980X and compared its capabilities with current ?specialized? chips. The benchmark test results were quite predictable: the flagship HEDT processor outperformed the desktop Intel Core Ultra 9 285K and Ryzen 9 9950X3D in multi-threading due to its significant advantage in the number of cores. And in single-core performance, thanks to its higher clock speed, the gaming ?red? chip came out ahead. In a gaming scenario (Starfield), the 9980X Threadripper performed at about the same level as the current Ryzen 7 series models ? respectable, but still noticeably behind the top gaming models. At the same time, the chip turned out to be relatively cool: with a TDP of up to 280 W, its temperature remained in the range of 68 to 85 ?C. Meanwhile, ComputerBase compared the new product with the 32-core Ryzen Threadripper 9970X ? the latter was found to be a more interesting model in terms of price-performance ratio. It was only slightly inferior to the 64-core model in various work scenarios, while its MSRP is $2,499 compared to $4,999 for the older chip. |
