Sony held a presentation for its new A7R VI digital camera. Compared to its predecessor, released in 2022, the new model is faster and features a higher-resolution sensor, though it also comes with a higher price tag. The manufacturer cites the full-frame sensor with a resolution of 66.8 MP and a dynamic range of up to 16 stops as the main feature of the Sony A7R VI. Thanks to its multi-layer architecture, the vendor claims, it delivers significantly higher continuous shooting speeds (up to 30 fps in RAW with 14-bit color depth) and improved video quality. The camera's multi-layer sensor, paired with the latest Bionz XR2 processor, supports 8K video recording (across the full width of the sensor) at up to 30 fps or 4K @ 120 fps. In addition, the A7R VI features an improved AI-based autofocus system thanks to the Real-time Recognition AF+ function. The camera also features a new 9.44-million-dot OLED The grip design has been made more substantial to accommodate the higher-capacity NP-SA100 battery (2,670 mAh compared to 2,280 mAh in the previous model in the series). The manufacturer promises up to 710 shots on a single charge. The A7R VI is also the first Sony camera to support dual amplification shooting to reduce noise and minimize loss of detail in shadows. It inherits built-in image stabilization of up to 8.5 stops and two USB Type-C Sales of the Sony A7R VI will begin in June 2026, starting at $4,500. |
