SanDisk has announced two new SSD platforms aimed at striking a balance between performance and power efficiency. One of the company's upcoming products should be a drive that squeezes the most out of the PCIe 5.0 interface while still delivering the same power consumption as PCIe 4.0 drives. According to Tom's Hardware, the new SSD in a 2TB configuration will deliver sequential read and write speeds of 14,500MB/s and 14,000MB/s, respectively. And the drive will only need 7 watts of power to achieve these speeds. By comparison, the fastest PCIe 5.0 drives of this size are more likely to consume 10 watts or more under peak loads. SanDisk's upcoming SSD platform will be TLC NAND, with capacity configurations ranging from 512GB to 4TB. The SSD is expected to be released in the second quarter of 2025. SanDisk also unveiled a new 3D QLC NAND flash-based SSD platform with PCIe 4.0 support and a maximum capacity of 2TB, and announced plans to accelerate the expansion of QLC NAND flash-based SSDs by 2028. At the same time, the company is preparing for a full migration from PCIe 4.0 to 5.0. |
