Lexar has announced the release of the Ares Pro series of consumer solid-state drives with high data read and write speeds. The new 1, 2, and 4 TB models with DRAM buffers are aimed at gamers, but are also suitable for work scenarios thanks to their decent memory cell capacity. All three drives with a PCI-Express 5.0 x4 interface support sequential read speeds of up to 14 GB/s, but differ in write speeds: up to 11 GB/s for the 4 TB version, up to 10 GB/s for the 2 TB model, and up to 7.5 GB/s for the smaller 1 TB version. The performance in random access operations also varies: up to 2/1.5 million IOPS for random read/write in the larger model, 2/1.4 million in the 2 TB version, and up to 1.6/1 million IOPS in the terabyte model. The declared cell life is 3,000, 1,500, and 750 TBW, respectively. Lexar Ares Pro drives are supplied without heat sinks, but, according to the manufacturer, are equipped with graphene-based thermal stickers. It is also known that the new products will go on sale with a five-year warranty, but their prices and retail debut date have not yet been announced. |
