Kioxia unveils the first 245TB SSD on the market

kioxia-lc9-

Kioxia has expanded its LC9 series of SSD drives with a new model, the main feature of which is an industry-record capacity. For example, the device can store more than 12,000 20-gigabyte movies in 4K - but it can't be installed in a home computer.

Kioxia LC9 is based on 3D QLC NAND memory chips coupled with NVMe 2.0 (PCIe 5.0 x4 interface) controller. The claimed sequential read speed is up to 12 GB/s, write speed is up to 3 GB/s, and in random operations SSD ?overclocked? to 1,300,000 / 50,000 IOPS respectively. The recommended load is 0.3 writes per day (DWPD).

The drive is positioned as a solution for data centers and applications with high data density requirements (e.g., AI training). Initially, samples of the 245TB LC9 drive will be available for testing by Kioxia partners. This will be followed by release in U.2 (up to 122.88TB), E3.S (up to 122.88TB) and E3.L (245.76TB) form factors. The new product is scheduled to be presented at the Future of Memory and Storage conference in August this year.
