In the latest BIOS firmware for motherboards based on the B650 chipset, GIGABYTE suddenly disabled PCIe 5.0 support in the main PCIe x16 slot. Although this option was never officially announced, it did exist and was used by many. With the release of BIOS version F35 for models such as the B650 Gaming X AX V2, the ?Gen 5? item has disappeared from the menu: the maximum now available is PCIe 4.0. However, rolling back to firmware F34 restores Gen 5 support, confirming that this is a deliberate change. Officially, GIGABYTE never announced the availability of PCIe 5.0 for graphics cards on the B650 ? only M.2 SSDs received Gen 5. However, due to the similarity of the circuit boards with the B650E versions, users could activate Gen 5 manually. Now this loophole has been closed ? allegedly due to stability issues with some GPUs when operating at higher speeds. Reddit and Chiphell users criticized GIGABYTE for its lack of transparency: the BIOS change log says nothing about removing support. Moreover, the first measurements have appeared: after updating to F35, games such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Dying Light 2 show a drop of 3?5 fps. BIOS F35 has already disappeared from the GIGABYTE website and has been replaced by F36, where Gen 5 support is also disabled. |
