Fairphone announced the sixth generation of its smartphone, emphasizing repairability and modularity. The new model is 9% lighter and more compact than the previous model, with a larger battery that can be easily replaced at home. The key innovation is the updated design of the back panel: now its lower part can be quickly removed by removing just a couple of screws, or replaced with additional accessories - a card holder or a finger loop. This approach makes the smartphone customizable to the owner's needs. In general, modularity extends to 12 components, including the display, charging port and cameras, which can be replaced as easily as possible. However, this approach comes at a price in terms of reduced protection - the Fairphone 6 is only rated IP55, which means only splash protection. Fairphone 6 is equipped with a 6.31-inch OLED ![]() ![]() The smartphone gets a physical Fairphone Moments switch that disables all distractions. The device comes with a five-year warranty and a promise of operating system and security updates until 2033. In Europe, the Fairphone 6 is already available for ?599 in black, green and white colors. In the US, the device will go on sale pre-installed with /e/OS - a privacy-oriented version of Android - at a price of $899. |
