ASUS has released three new VU series monitors: the 23.8-inch VU249HFI-W, 27-inch VU279HFI-W, and 34-inch VU34WCIP-W. All models feature a built-in air ionizer, which the company says is up to 90% efficient.
The two smaller models are equipped with an IPS In Plane Switching (IPS) panels are an expensive option but they have excellent colour accuracy and far greater viewing angles then TN and VA panels (Not that we condone slouching while gaming). They are great for graphics design and photo editing. However, the only downside to IPS panels if that they can sometimes have a slower response time than TN panels. This is the only real problem if you’re a very competitive gamer or want to game in 3D. As of late “IPS” has become a big marketing word. Step into an Apple store and you would be hard pressed talking to someone that didn’t mention Apple’s “brand new IPS Displays!” In fact, Apple is probably one of the biggest marketers of this “new-found” technology. As a business person myself, this is when you have to tip your hat to Apple’s awesome marketing machine. Why? Well, because IPS is actually nothing new. In fact, this technology was originally invented in 1996 by Hitachi..matrix with a resolution of 1080p, a refresh rate of 100 Hz, a brightness of 250 nits, an aspect ratio of 16:9 and a response time of 1 ms MPRT. But the large 34-inch monitor received a VA panel with a resolution of 3440 x 1440 pixels, an aspect ratio of 21:9 and a brightness of 350 nits.
The air ionizer on the new monitors is installed on the rear panel. ASUS claims that it is capable of effectively cleaning the air from dust and microparticles.
The 23.8-inch VU249HFI-W is priced at $129, the 27-inch VU279HFI-W is priced at $159, and the 34-inch VU34WCIP-W will cost buyers $359.
