ASUS has updated its ROG Strix gaming laptop lineup with the introduction of the ROG Strix G16 (2026) and ROG Strix G18 (2026) models. The main feature of the new models is the top-of-the-line Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus mobile processor, which focuses not only on raw performance but also on accelerating AI tasks.

Pairing with the Intel processor are graphics cards up to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080, featuring support for upscaling technology and DLSS 4 frame generation. The laptops are equipped with up to 64 GB of DDR5 RAMRandom Access Memory (RAM) is the place in a computer where the operating system, application programs, and data in current use are kept so that they can be quickly reached by the computers processor. and up to 2 TB of PCIe 4.0 NVMe storage.

The manufacturer placed special emphasis on the displays: the Strix G16 features a 16-inch 2.5K IPSIn Plane Switching (IPS) panels are an expensive option but they have excellent colour accuracy and far greater viewing angles then TN and VA panels (Not that we condone slouching while gaming). They are great for graphics design and photo editing. However, the only downside to IPS panels if that they can sometimes have a slower response time than TN panels. This is the only real problem if you’re a very competitive gamer or want to game in 3D. As of late “IPS” has become a big marketing word. Step into an Apple store and you would be hard pressed talking to someone that didn’t mention Apple’s “brand new IPS Displays!” In fact, Apple is probably one of the biggest marketers of this “new-found” technology. As a business person myself, this is when you have to tip your hat to Apple’s awesome marketing machine. Why? Well, because IPS is actually nothing new. In fact, this technology was originally invented in 1996 by Hitachi..screen with a 300 Hz refresh rate, which is ideal for esports where reaction speed is crucial. The Strix G18 features an 18-inch panel with a Mini LED matrix, 2.5K resolution, a 240 Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of up to 1,600 nits. Both models utilize proprietary anti-glare technology.

To prevent overheating, ASUS has redesigned the cooling system. The laptops feature a vapor chamber, a triple-fan setup, and a complex heat sink system.

The company has also redesigned the chassis with future upgrades in mind. The proprietary RGB lighting throughout the chassis is still there.
