ASRock introduced the W790 WS R2.0 board for Intel Xeon W-3400 and W-2400 workstations

ASRock has introduced the W790 WS R2.0 motherboard for workstations based on Intel Xeon W-3400 and W-2400 processors using the LGA 4677 processor socket. While the name suggests that the new product is the second revision of the W790 WS board released by the manufacturer last February, the W790 WS R2.0 is actually a more affordable version of the original model.

To make the W790 WS R2.0 cheaper, the manufacturer got rid of the cover over the rear panel of connectors, which is present on the original W790 WS. In addition, the board has lost several connectors. Although the VRM power supply subsystem of the W790 WS R2.0 motherboard remains the same as the original model, the cooling heatsinks of the R2.0 version have a simpler design.

In addition to design changes, ASRock W790 WS R2.0 also lacks Thunderbolt 4 port and Wi-FiWi-Fi is a type of wireless networking protocol that allows devices to communicate without cords or cables. Wi-Fi is technically an industry term that represents a type of wireless local area network (LAN) protocol based on the 802.11 IEEE network standard. It is the most popular means of communicating data wirelessly, within a fixed location, today. 6E support, and instead of two 10-gigabit network adapters in the original version, the new model offers only one. Nevertheless, the ASRock W790 WS R2.0 retains its impressive specs. It features a 22-phase VRM power subsystem, four PCI-Express 5.0 x16 slots (x16/NC/x16/NC or x16/NC/x8/x8 or x8/x8/x8/x8/x8/x8) and one PCI-Express 4.0 x16 (operating in x4 mode). The board offers up to 2Tbytes of DDR5-6800 RAMRandom Access Memory (RAM) is the place in a computer where the operating system, application programs, and data in current use are kept so that they can be quickly reached by the computers processor. with ECC error correction and also supports DDR5 RDIMM-3DS memory.

ASRock W790 WS R2.0 also gets four M.2 slots with support for PCIe 5.0 NVMe storage, one U.2 PCIe 4.0 slot, six SATA III ports (6Gbps), a USB 3.2 Gen2x2 Type-C (20Gbps), two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A (10Gbps), seven USB 3.2 Gen1 (5Gbps) and three USB 2.0.

Support for 10 Gigabit network connectivity is provided by the Aquantia AQC113CS controller. In addition to it, the W790 WS R2.0 has a 2.5 Gigabit network connector powered by the Intel I226LM controller that supports the vPro platform. The board also offers support for 6-channel audio.

ASRock has not disclosed the price of the W790 WS R2.0, but it is clear that it will be noticeably lower than the original W790 WS.
