An AMD patent application for the AM6 platform has appeared online. The document provides a general overview of future AMD chips ? in particular, it hints at increased power limits and compatibility with faster RAM ![]() According to the source, AM6 will be AMD's first consumer processor platform to support DDR6 memory modules and Zen 7 architecture. The new socket is expected to have 2,100 pins (22% more than AM5), which hints at an increase in TDP (rumor has it that the limit will rise from 170 to 200 W). The additional pins should also provide greater hardware bandwidth. At the same time, judging by the patent sketches, the size of the LGA platform will not change. Most likely, the new Ryzen chips will be compatible with previous-generation cooling systems at least until the announcement of the AM7 socket. The AM6 platform is expected to support the PCIe 6.0 interface while maintaining backward compatibility with PCIe 5.0 devices. The premiere of the new platform and compatible hardware is expected to take place only in 2028. AMD itself has not yet announced the update. |
