It appears that in the next generation of Qualcomm's flagship chips, the focus will be not only on achieving maximum performance but also on a clearer distinction between models. Well-known insider Digital Chat Station has revealed how the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 will differ from the Pro version.

According to the insider, the base Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 (SM8950) will reportedly switch to TSMC's 2nm process and adopt a new Oryon core configuration with a ?2+3+3? layout. This combination is intended to strike a balance between performance and energy efficiency. The chip is also expected to feature a shared 16 MB L2 cache.

Graphics will be handled by the Adreno 845 with a six-cluster architecture, supplemented by 12 MB of GMEM video memory and 6 MB of system cache. Support for LPDDR5X and UFS 5.0 memory has also been announced.

As for the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, it is rumored to feature a more powerful Adreno 850 GPU, larger caches, and even support for next-generation LPDDR6 memory. Plus, it potentially offers higher clock speeds that could exceed 5 GHz. However, even with these improvements, the performance gain over the previous generation is estimated at around 20%.

As expected, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 is intended for mainstream flagship devices, while the Pro variant will serve as the foundation for Ultra models.
