Entering DFU mode of Apple iPhone 4 16GB

The purpose of DFU mode (Device Firmware Update) for restoring Apple device software. Do not confuse DFU mode with Recovery mode. In Recovery mode, the USB cable and the iTunes icon are displayed on the screen. In DFU mode, the device appears to be turned off. To enter DFU mode, do the following:

1. Connect the smartphone to the computer

2. Next, hold the Power and Home buttons for about 10 seconds

3. Release the Power button, but do not release the "Home" button

4. If the Apple logo appears, then start the whole procedure from the beginning.

5. Hold the "Home" button until iTunes determines the new device in recovery mode (approximately 20-30 seconds).
Now the device is in DFU mode and it is possible to perform software recovery on it.
