JEDEC has approved a new LPDDR6 RAM ![]() LPDDR6 offers increased bandwidth through a dual sub-channel architecture and improved addressing. The memory is capable of flexible access lengths (32 or 64 bytes), and dynamic write tuning (NT-ODT) improves stability at high speeds. For systems with large amounts of DRAM, a resource-efficient mode is available. In terms of power efficiency, LPDDR6 operates at a lower voltage, supports dynamic frequency and voltage scaling (DVFSL), and uses optimizations in the command structure to save power at idle and under light loads. In terms of security, there is a programmable reference protection scheme and error correction, as well as built-in self-testing (MBIST). The new standard has already been endorsed by leading market players: Samsung, SK hynix, Micron, Qualcomm and MediaTek. They note that LPDDR6 will become the basis for next-generation devices, including AI systems, flagship smartphones, automotive electronics and cloud services. |
