Garmin has unveiled a mid-segment smart watch called Instinct 3 and the more affordable Instinct E. According to the company, the combination of a built-in solar panel and transflective display (MiP) can provide ?infinite? autonomy to the new gadgets.

The Garmin Instinct 3 is available in AMOLEDAMOLED, which stands for Active Matrix OLED, is a hybrid display technology that pairs the active matrix backplane from a traditional TFT display with an OLED display. As a result of their active matrix natures, AMOLED displays have faster pixel switching response times than do traditional OLED displays, which are prone to ghosting when displaying fast moving animations.(50mm) and MiP display (45mm and 50mm) versions. The latter version is characterized by the presence of a solar panel and low power consumption. Otherwise, the new products are similar and have all the features of Garmin watches: can track sports activity, can recognize ?abnormal situations? during training (eg, falls) and much more.

The list of functions includes monitoring of sleep, heart rate and other health indicators. There's also contactless payment via Garmin Pay, Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) geo-positioning, and a built-in flashlight. There is also support for SatIQ, a technology that improves navigation accuracy and extends battery life.

According to the company, AMOLED-version in smartwatch mode works up to 24 days, and in satellite navigation mode - from 30 to 40 hours. Modification with MiP-screen - works ?indefinitely? thanks to the solar panel (it is supposed to be worn all day long with 3 hours a day outdoors at 50,000 lux).

The Instinct E is available in 40mm and 45mm sizes and features a transflective display only. The watch has a battery life of up to 14 days and up to 12 hours in GPSThe Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based navigation system made up of at least 24 satellites. GPS works in any weather conditions, anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day, with no subscription fees or setup charges. The U.S. Department of Defense (USDOD) originally put the satellites into orbit for military use, but they were made available for civilian use in the 1980s.. mode. All the basic smartwatch features and Garmin services are also available.

All new products will go on sale on January 10: Garmin Instinct 3 will be priced from $449, Instinct E - from $299.
